What is a Guardianship Program?
***If interested in becoming a guardian family for a FEMALE wheaten puppy, please inquire by completing below questionnaire***
If we as society truly opposed to the idea of puppy mills, Guardianship program is the best program to ensure the world is filled with healthy, happy dogs, bred by educated and loving breeders, who take all the required measurements to ensure the dogs that they breed improves the quality of the breed, not just to increase their numbers.
Guardianship program supports reputable and responsible breeders like us to continue our breeding program in the most loving and humane way possible, FREE OF CAGES and into the loving arms of real families.
Bavaria Hills Wheatens only has one or two puppies a year available to guardian homes.
As a guardian, you will receive free of charge, a male or a female puppy, depending on which gender we have available. This puppy will be an AKC registered puppy, will have received his/her 1st vaccination, dewormed and microchipped when he/she goes home to you. He/she will be your family dog and we retain the breeding rights on them, starting at sexual maturity (usually about 12 - 15 months old for male and about 22-25 months old for female) and ending once a female guardian dog has successfully produced a certain number of litters (usually from 1 to maximum 3 litters during a female career), or maximum 4 yrs old for a male guardian dog. Of course, breeding won’t happen unless the dog passes his/her temperament, genetics & health tests and is OFA eyes and hip certified. If he/she does not pass those tests, then our contract will be terminated, and your puppy remains your family dog.
Your responsibilities will include
-
Keeping the dog on a leash or in a fenced area at all times,
-
Keeping up to date and on hand all health/vet/vaccine records, administer monthly fea/tick & heartworm prevention, and any other recommended tests/treatments recommended by your vet,
-
Understanding that this is your dog, you are responsible for all costs any dog owners incur to care for a dog. Bavaria Hills Wheatens is responsible for the breeding costs (food changes to accommodate pregnancy health, whelping, puppies, and vet and food costs while your dog stays with us).
-
Training the dog the basic obedience commands and potty training,
-
Feeding the dog a diet approved foods by breeder (no grocery store brand foods, 1st ingredient must show real meat, and minimal grains).
-
Willingness to identify and notify us immediately when a female begins her heat cycle
-
Never allowing a female around unneutered male dogs while in her heat cycle, or allowing a male guardian dog to breed with unapproved females.
-
Must live within a reasonable driving distance to Chaska MN
-
Willing to communicate, cooperate and coordinate with the breeder regarding testing, mating and whelping.

For a female guardian dog, once she is ready to breed, we will schedule a time for us to breed her. Then she will go back home to you during her gestation period (about 60 days). When she's ready to give birth, she will return to our home to whelp (give birth), and to raise the puppies until they are ready to go to their new homes (She will stay with us between 6 - 8weeks). As a guardian family, you will receive weekly updates, photos and videos (we are also open to video calls) on your dog & her pups, and of course you are welcome to visit her and see the puppies after puppies have received their 1st vaccines (Please note that hygiene and other precautions will be taken as puppies' immune systems are still developing).
For a male guardian dog, once he is at sexual maturity age, we will arrange for mating sessions with our female, which lasts no more than 30 minutes each time. We will communicate the approximate dates ahead of time (usually 2-3 times a year depending on the female's heat cycle).
When they have fulfilled their guardianship program obligations as specified, Bavaria Hills Wheatens will release guardian dogs from contract, and they remain your family dogs for the rest of his/her life. Upon completion of guardian program, Bavaria Hills Wheatens will require guardian dogs be spayed/neutered, and we will pay for the cost to spay/neuter to be done at our veterinary clinic.
If you are interested in joining this program, please submit below questionnaires, and we will get back to you as soon as we can.
Thank you.
